Business Management Systems, also known as BMS, was one of the largest suppliers of laptops for more than 30 years and the first to introduce laptops in Ireland during the mid 1980’s. They were the main supplier of Toshiba laptops and portable computers for business and home use for many years.
BMS were also one of the largest independent laptop service providers in Ireland, authorised for Toshiba and Samsung laptop warranty and out-of-warranty repairs and out-of-warranty repairs for Sony laptops. Their NotebookRepair.ie brand also provided repair services for a wide range of laptop brands that included Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and other popular brands.
BMS developed BMS Accounts, an integrated suite of business accounting software that was the first multi-user PC based accounting system available in Ireland. This evolved into an extensive suite of accounting software covering applications from Order processing to Sales, Purchase and Nominal ledgers, Stock control, Payroll and more.
Direct and Online Technology sales
BMS provided direct sales and operated an online web shop for a wide range of technology products and services.
In July 2013 the company was placed in voluntary liquidation. Commenting on the closure of BMS, Billy Guy said that “increasing competition from local, foreign and online operators eroded margin on the products BMS supplied to a point that made it no longer economic to sustain the business or restructure a cost base that had become a legacy of our success over many years”. He added “My one regret is that we will no longer be in a position to look after our many customers who had given us their loyal support over so many years”.
